Sometimes when traveling, hotels are simply not an option. They can be expensive, low quality, or just inconvenient for your stay. Whatever the reason may be, hotels aren’t always the answer. Many travelers opt to stay in an Airbnb instead, where visitors often feel more welcomed and comfortable than they would in a hotel setting.
Unlike hotels, however, Airbnbs can’t always assure the same quality. Guests and hosts both rely on reviews to ensure quality and good reputations, rather than the brand reputation that the Hilton or Mariott would have. Often times, finding the right Airbnb can take a lot of effort, depending on your location, price range, and more.
With the popularity of Airbnb, Joybird recently conducted an analysis of Airbnbs across the country to find out where the best (and worst) options for Airbnbs are. They analyzed rentals from cities across the country based on price, average rating, and more to create a list of the best cities.
Typically, you can decide whether or not an Airbnb is good based on the rating. According to Joybird, you’re most likely to find a high-quality Airbnb in Mesa and Colorado Springs, which both have an average of 4.89 stars across all Airbnb listings in each city. The runner-ups aren’t far behind, and most of the best-rated cities only differ by a small amount. Other cities that are ranked in the best cities are Tuscon, Fort Worth, Jacksonville, Raleigh, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, and Alberquerque.
With the best-rated cities also come the worst. As mentioned before, there isn’t a lot of diversity in the average rating, but when hundreds are listings are being posted the smallest differences can mean a serious change of quality. New York City is listed as the city with the worst-rated Airbnbs on average, with 4.68 stars on average.
